Health and Safety is a key concern of the company and covers employees, associates, partners and other involved parties.
Health and Safety policies are based on current legislation and regulations of the Republic of Cyprus and where applicable and deemed appropriate these are complemented with UK regulations especially for works carried out within the Sovereign Base Areas.
The policies are constantly monitored by the Health and safety Committee which is specifically tasked and mandated to address all issues relating to the safety of staff and other parties. The company has designated a member of the Executive Team as Management Representative to the Committee so that issues are directly and immediately brought to the attention of and acted upon by the Executive Directors.
Local Health and Safety Committees have also been established at each district so that action may be taken where necessary and information relayed to top management in an effective and speedy manner.
Lessons learned from the COVID 19 Pandemic
With the COVID 19 pandemic finally receding, we have taken time to reflect on the lessons learnt from this very serious episode.
The first point to note was the need for speedy action in a co-ordinated and planned manner. The company, operating under its ISO 45001 certification, immediately developed an emergency response policy based on government directives and international best practice.
The second point was the need for frequent modifications to the policy. The policy was constantly under review as the pandemic evolved with new government guidelines being immediately implemented and transposed in action plans for the various sites.
The third point relates to the critical role of our staff. Colleagues form all levels were engaged in various roles both at policy development and implementation. Staff always kept informed of all developments both in the external environment and within working sites. Assistance was readily available to all and the transparency of the information sharing greatly facilitated work in a very difficult environment.
The final point is the more than satisfactory results of the action plan. As a result of the measures taken downtime was kept to a minimum and the provision of service particularly to highly sensitive sections was never interrupted.
The health and safety manual developed to cope with the pandemic along with the experience gathered has been documented and archived so that it can be used as a reference blueprint in the event of another emergency of this nature.
